Organisations and individuals alike must internalise the fact that the current outcry for justice is the culmination of decades of advocacy and centuries of discrimination. As such, a black square on a social media page is not a diversity plan or a measure of deep action, and reactively addressing events or concerns as they come is seen as performative.
